Doctor of the University
A prolific broadcaster with a commitment to charity and community causes.
Sam Matterface works across television, radio and podcast platforms for ITV, TNT Sports, and talkSPORT. He’s often heard commentating on England, Champions’ League, Premier League, and other high-profile matches.
In 2001 he took up his first full-time media role working in Portsmouth. As the Sports Editor, Breakfast Show host, and Programme Director of radio station 107.4 The Quay, Sam presided over a period of unprecedented success for the station. This led to it being named a Sony Gold Award winner for Station of the Year in 2007, at the National Radio Awards.
The key to success, Sam believed, was to engage and work with the local community. He continued this after his departure to Sky Sports, leading a charity team that raised over £60,000 for local causes.
Sam lived in the city of Portsmouth for 11 years, but his strong connection with friends and the region means he is a constant visitor.
