Dr Alaa Mohasseb
Biography
I am a Senior Lecturer in AI and Machine Learning at the School of Computing, as well as the Course Leader for the MSc in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. I obtained my PhD in Computing from the University of Portsmouth in 2018. In addition, I serve as the Faculty of Technology and the School of Computing's Early Career Researcher Representative, and I co-lead the Athena Swan Team.
I am a member of the Portsmouth AI and Data Science Centre (PAIDS), where I lead the Language Processing and Interdisciplinary Inference research area. Furthermore, I am a member of the British Educational Leadership, Management, and Administration Society (BELMAS).
Research interests
My research focuses on Artificial Intelligence, specifically in Text Mining, Natural Language Processing, and Machine Learning. I have collaborated with researchers across various disciplines and have participated in numerous academic and industrial projects. As an active member of several program committees for international conferences and workshops, I stay engaged in the broader AI research community.
I was a keynote speaker at the Women in Data Science (WiDS 2018) Conference in the UK and served as a panellist for "Women in Science and Technology: Experiences" at the INTAP'20 conference in Norway. My work has been recognized with several awards, including the bronze prize in the annual international competition for the best Research & Innovation projects in Cyber Security, organized by the Korean Industrial Technology Security Hub.
